Price: €122,000 (approx £75,000)
A beautiful, secluded olive grove with approximately 100 mature trees and ancient stone trullo. 1.3 hectares and only 5 kms. from unspoilt sandy beaches. Water and electricity are connected and there is planning permission for a 4 bedroom house. There are also orange, lemon and fig trees and wild caper bushes. The olive grove has a complete irrigation system and there is a modern oil mill 2 km away. The grove is approached by a hard road and is 2 km outside a large village which has shops, cafes, banks and a railway station. It is 8 km from Gallipoli on the Ionian Sea and 30 km from the beautiful Baroque city of Lecce. The airport of Brindisi is just over an hour’s drive and that of Bari about 2.5 hours away.
Puglia (Apulia) forms the easternmost part of the Italian peninsula and has a long coastline, facing the Ionian and Adriatic Seas. Puglia is essentially a flatland with wide arid expanses. The coast is often high, plunging steep into the sea; in other areas, it is sandy or rocky, but usually flat.
This part of Puglia is called the Salento and is very unspoilt and rural. The Peninsula has the Adriatic sea on one side with the ancient port of Otranto and its famous cathedral and the Ionian Sea on the other with the citadel of Gallipoli.
Puglia is a huge producer of olive oil and the Salento is also well-known for its high quality red wines and also for cheese.
